Ohio Logistics Company Opens Frederickson Distribution Center

World Distribution Services has opened a 309,000-square-foot logistics facility in Frederickson, Pierce County, the company announced Monday.

The Business Journal reported in May that the Cleveland-based company was planning tenant improvement for the space, its first logistics site on the West Coast.

WDS occupies Building 2 of Dallas-based Dalfen Industrial’s 54-acre Tacoma Supply Chain Center, located off 176th Street East and 50th Avenue East.

The site will help establish the WDS’ West Coast footprint, Vice President Dale Young said in a news release.

“Responding to market demand, as well as the specific needs of our customers, WDS has been aggressively growing, opening four facilities that total over 1 million square feet of warehouse space over the last 24 months,” he said.

The facility will offer inland distribution service that avoids congestion that can occur at other West Coast ports, according to the company.

The site is 14 miles from the Port of Tacoma and close to state Route 512 and Interstate 5.

The Northwest Seaport Alliance’s recent approval a 16-acre lease to BNSF Railway Co. will contribute to WDS’ ability to move cargo inland, the release said. A planned BNSF intermodal facility will increase cargo volumes moving from Tacoma to the inland markets.

LG Electronics Inc. of Seoul, South Korea, is also taking space in the development — a 267,000-square-foot building.

Architect Nelson Worldwide filed tenant improvement permit requests for WDS and LG Electronics in April.

The 711,855-square-foot, three-building industrial campus was developed by Panattoni Development Co. with Crow Holdings and completed last year.

Matt McGregor and Bill Condon of Colliers are the leasing agents. They also represented Dalfen when it purchased the campus in a $115 million off-market transaction in July 2021.
